Question
I have a 12 week old yorkie and i need to know how many times a day she should be fed and about how many hours between? She is under 4 lbs
Answer
At a young age Yorkshire Terrier puppies will be energetic and will burn calories very easily. At first it is a good idea to feed yorkie puppies about four times a day. By doing this you are allowing them to get all the necessary nutrition they need. If you were to try and feed them all of it at once they may either burn it all before the end of the day and then go to sleep hungry, be sick because of the excess amount or leave part of the food because they can’t finish it.
By feeding them in small amounts periodically every day they will get into a routine that will let them know that once they start getting hungry there will be food for them soon.

maybe 4 times a day
maybe 4 times a day very small amounts, and watch for her stools, if they are ok ,fine ,if watery cut back, to maybe further between feeds
Monica says
Feed 3 to 4 times
I had 2 liters a total of 6 yorkies I took care of until 8 weeks, feed 3 to 4 times free feed them is better to be on safe side.

Nutri-cal
If they are stubborn like mine were and won’t eat try chicken breast chopped up. For a while it’s about all I could get one of them to eat. It also had to be out of my hand. He would not eat from bowl. Nutri-cal is also good to have on hand.

I agree
I have had several litters and agree with the above. Since they are older keeping a good dry food and a wet food around. I would give a bit of wet with dry if they were not gaining well.
Susan says
Wellness dry food
I kept Wellness dry food out at all times and boiled chicken and rice offered 3x day and gave him a little Nutri-cal a couple of times a day at that age. Now at one year, he has his dry food all day to nibble on and wet wellness once a day.

My Yorkie is 4
My Yorkie is 4 years old. I leave his dry food for him to eat whenever he’s hungry. He nibbles here and there all day. He’s a happy healthy doggie. He’s 5 pounds.

Disagree with leaving food out
I would disagree with leaving food out. I started out doing this and she became very aggressive around her bowl. It took me a long time to break her of this behavior. She is now around 5.5 lbs a little over 4 yrs and she gets feed 1/4 cup dry food once in the morning and 1/4 cup dry food at night. I have been following this since she was about 10 weeks old. If she/he not eating make sure you bring this up with your vet.
